The Ithaca Rotary Club continues to support humanitarian relief efforts in hurricane devastated Haiti. Club members contributed $2,000 on February 3 in response to an appeal from Club President Janet.
The Holiday Inn donated a portion of the lunch proceeds for that day to help in the effort. These contributions were quickly sent to ShelterBoxUSA which is providing on the ground relief in Haiti. The Ithaca Rotary Club has now sent funds for three ShelterBoxes in this fiscal year; ShelterBoxes were also sent in each of the last two fiscal years. Each ShelterBox costs $1,000.

As of mid-February, more than 8,000 ShelterBoxes have been being deployed by  ShelterBox volunteers in Haiti.

ShelterBoxes are usually packed with one (sometimes two) ten-person tent(s). Other items can include insulated sleeping mats and thermal blankets, water purification tablets, water purification kits, water containers/carriers, a trenching shovel, a multi-fueled cook stove, eating utensils and plates, a children's activity kit and other essential items. Founded by Rotarian Tom Henderson, ShelterBoxes have been sent around the world following disasters from Samoa to the Sudan.
