Rotary Club of Ithaca Announces 2015 Grant Awardees
Community grants program funds nine worthy local causes

Ithaca, New York – The Ithaca Rotary Club is pleased to announce the awardees for its 2015 round of community grants. Nine grant requests were funded at a total of $5,310. The agencies were honored at a check presentation during Rotary’s lunch meeting on Wednesday, October 7. Funds for these grants are raised through Rotary’s annual Little Apple Fall Follies (LAFF) event held during Ithaca Apple Festival Week.


The 2015 grant recipients are:

  • Cancer Resource Center: $442 - Purchase a bariatric armchair so larger individuals may more comfortably participate in support groups
  • Catholic Charities of Tompkins & Tioga: $700 - Offset the costs for appropriate clothing, required uniforms and safety equipment required for job seekers
  • Dryden Town Historical Society: $750 - New lighting in the visitor’s parking lot of the historic Southworth Homestead
  • Foodnet Meals on Wheels: $543 - Promotional materials to build awareness and increase the agency’s presence in the community
  • Ithaca Makerspace (dba Ithaca Generator): $275 - Three soldering stations for the collaborative community shop class
  • Northside United: $500 - Create and distribute a new community newsletter for the Northside Triangle neighborhood
  • Southside Community Center: $1,000 - Fresh Snack Program for Southside’s afterschool program
  • Tompkins Learning Partners: $500 - Purchase a bicycle rack and 3 cable bike locks plus installation costs
  • Ulysses Philomathic Library: $600 - Books for Backpacks Project provides low-income children in the Trumansburg School District with a supplemental backpack of food and a new book once a month

Ithaca Rotary’s community grants are intended to promote the quality of life in Tompkins County and the greater Ithaca area. These grants support organizations in the community that have special projects or needs which are not funded by general funding sources. Grants are usually awarded within the range of $200 to $1,000. The grants process is led by Club Service Chair Angela Sullivan.
