Club Member Named "Rotarian Who Makes a Difference" in District Governor's Newsletter

After answering the callfor volunteers at a Tompkins County Immunization H1N1 clinic, Joe Casanniti, began to realize the importance of handwashing.
A member of the Rotary Club of Ithaca, Joe took it upon himself to develop a project that he hoped would help the area’s young people maintain their health. He found a CDC developed bookmark that was focused on handwashing, and he re-created it in a format that could be produced locally. He had it approved by the Health Department, the Cayuga Medical Center, and the nurse supervisor of the Ithaca City School District. He printed 15,000 bookmarks which he will distribute to the schools and day care centers throughout the Tompkins County on October 15th, in time for national handwashing day.
Joe’s family is financially supporting the project and with the help of other Rotarians will see his idea materialize. Rotarian Casanniti joined Rotary in March 2005 and has been very active. His activities include:

- Two years as Sergeant at Arms (recently completed)
- 100% attendance last year (with makeups)
- Participation in Pancake Day, Share the Warmth, RLI,Community Building Works! Build project, MembershipCommittee, Adult Immunization Coalition, World of Skills, Highway Cleanup and Showcase Tompkins (a PR/networking project for our club).
- Participation in Ithaca club’s trip to Mississippi to work on hurricane recovery home restoration projects
