With a club membership of 185, the Ithaca Rotary Club has many active, dedicated members. The work of the club is extensive, including signature events like the Share the Warmth clothing drive, Election Day Pancake Breakfast, Highway Clean-up, Rotary Harvest, and the Books for the World book donation program.

It is the privilege of the President of the Club to name the Rotarian of the Year, recognizing a person who has offered exceptional service to club.  With deep appreciation for his dedication to the Ithaca Rotary Club, The Rotarian of the Year for the year 2010-2011 is Ron Provus.

Ron has been a member of the Ithaca Rotary Club since March of 2009.  He has served on the membership committee for the two short years he has belonged to the club, and served as Membership Chair in 2010-2011.  He has been an enthusiastic recruiter for the club, sponsoring new members, coordinating and participating in each new member orientation, and implementing a second orientation program (for members who have belonged to the club for under a year).  Ron has attended every after-hours makeup, and almost always goes out to dinner after the Board meeting (a tradition these past couple of years that builds friendship as well as good working relationships among Board members).  It was Ron’s idea to have the IRC participated in the Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase for the past two years, a forum that has raised community awareness of the Ithaca Rotary Club, and has brought new members to the club.

For the Showcase, he facilitated the creation of promotional posters that highlight the work of the club, and made sure we had Rotary baseball hats for each member in attendance to wear.  Ron was also instrumental in planning the first Annual Little Apple Fall Follies, assisting in a variety of ways, most notably ticket sales, and is actively involved again this year.    It is quite common to hear Ron gently reminding members (including the club President) to wear their Rotary pins, a simple and effective action that effectively puts the Rotary insignia in full public view.

On June 22, 2011, Ron Provus was named and recognized as Rotarian of the Year.  He was given a “Rotarian of the Year” lapel pin, and he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow certificate and pin.  Ron was also presented with a plaque bearing his name, which will remain in his possession until the next Rotarian of the Year is named.
