Four-Way Test — Thanks to George Ferrari, Teri Tarshus, Jo-Ellen Hedlund, and Harlin McEwan for reciting the Four-Way Test. The Thought for the Day — Nancy Potter, in recognition of International Peace Day, read a poem about virtues and taking courage by Maya Angelou. Guests and Visiting Rotarians — District Governor Evan Kurtz was at the meeting.
- Bob Gravani: highway clean-up is Saturday, October 16. Meet at old Chamber location at 9:00am.
- Bob Gravani: the local DOT is planning a sign honoring Noel Desch. Details soon.
- Gertrude Noden: 40 Day for Girls kits were recently delivered to South Sudan. The next sew-a-thon dates for kits are October 22 and 23. Sign up to help.
- President Catrina: next week’s meeting will be in person at the Ithaca Farmers Market at our usual time: 12:15 – 1:15. It will be fellowship only, no program or lunch. Come and see your fellow Rotarians for social exchange next week!
- President Catrina: October meetings will continue on Zoom until CDC recommendations change.

Heidi introduced District Governor Evan Kurtz, who shared a number of Rotary International and District initiatives and priorities: - This year’s theme is Serve To Change Lives. He hopes to get pins to us soon.
- “Each One, Bring One” is the motto to increase global membership. We’ve been holding at 1.2 million members for 10 years and need to grow.
- RI Convention is in Houston in early June. Register now!
- Asking every club to coordinate a day of service this year, preferably collaborating with other nearby Rotary clubs or service organizations.
- Empower women and girls worldwide
- Setting up a committee to look at IDEA initiatives (inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility)
- District communications will come through email. Social media is also good but not as well known or easily accessed by all members of our district.
- Embrace the new 7th Area of Focus – Protecting Our Environment. Climate change is real and is impacting all aspects of our lives. We must do something – anything – to slow it down. Planning a multi-state clean-up project of the Susquehanna River.
