Join the Zoom Meeting November 3, 2021 Newsletter Reporter: Kelly Buck | Facilitator: Joanne Lamoureux President Catrina opened the hybrid meeting with Heidi Goldstein ringing the bell. Many people were on Zoom and about 40 people were attending in person to Coltivare. Four-Way Test — Thanks to George Gull, Gail Lyman, Stacy McNeil, and President Catrina for reciting the Four-Way Test. The Thought for the Day — Roger Sibley quoted Thomas de Quincey: “If once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think little of robbing. And from robbing, he comes next to drinking and sabbath-breaking, and from that, to incivility and procrastination.” Guests & Visiting Rotarians — Amy LeViere visiting as George Ferrari’s guest. There were no Visiting Rotarians. President Catrina read the list of November birthdays and anniversaries, followed by singing led by Loralyn Light. We especially noted George Gull and Nancy Potter’s 43 anniversary with Rotary!
- Bob Gravani thanked the crew members who helped with the highway clean-up project a couple of weeks ago.
- Heidi reported that this year’s three weeks of Rotary Harvest were successful. There was $150 leftover in the budget, which will be spent on books and Thanksgiving dinners for BJM families.
- Pancake Day co-chairs Geoff Dunn and June Losurdo reported that the event was a success with 349 paid meals going out the door. They experienced an active lunch hour … and some trouble with coagulated syrup! Many thanks to everyone who helped out; ideas for improvement are already in the works for next year.
- Loralyn Light updated the group on Share The Warmth. They need help with pick-ups and sorting at The Rose.
- Foundation chair Dale Flinn reminded everyone that November is Foundation Month, and he gave a little history on it. The International Rotary Foundation was founded in 1917 in Atlanta. It got a big boost in 1947 when founding father Paul Harris died and the Paul Harris Fellowship was created. Our club has two fundraising goals for this year: 1) $13,000 to the annual fund and 2) $2,000 to PolioPlus.
- President Catrina thanked all those who helped serve the buffet lunch today, then launched into Happy Dollars!
- Frank Towner is retiring!
- Serenna McLoud is happy to be here in person and her business is going well
- Mary Berens got her booster shot and the Braves won the Series
- Nick Romo has had his State Farm office for 4 years
- Jack Roscoe advertised the Savage Club’s new free Sunday night jazz concerts at 7:00pm
- June Losurdo is stoked that Michigan State beat MU – go Spartans!
Gary Reinbolt stepped up to pinch hit as speaker today, bringing his “Magical Mystery Tour.” Gary teaches ethics, and shared a number of insightful statements and quotes to make one think. Among them: - “Be not humble to the haughty, nor haughty to the humble” – Jefferson Davis
- “Truth is not always easy but it is always appropriate”
- “Always do what is right. It will gratify half of mankind and astound the other.” – Mark Twain
- “Learn to apologize in three sentences: What I did was wrong. I’m sorry. How can I make it right?”
- “Courtesy costs you nothing but gains you all”
