ANNOUNCEMENTS

Rotarian Jessie Ripple passed away on August 29th. A reception for friends and family has been arranged for this Friday, September 17, 2021, 12:30 p.m., at Parrilla Restaurant (former known as the Ithaca Country Club). All are welcome for a luncheon and fellowship.

In memoriam of Jessie, Club members shared memories:

  • Heidi Goldstein remembered her cowboy boots, being the first to start Share the Warmth, and her generosity.
  • As a shoutout to Joanne Lamoureux for encouraging personal letters to homebound Rotarians, June Losurdo shared that Jessie called to thank her Ithaca Rotary friends for their cards and messages.
  • Dale Flinn remembered a meeting where Jessie initially objected to being assigned a seat, but later reflected that she “had a nice time,” and liked the person she sat next to at lunch.
  • Ron Provus remembers Jessie being very generous and bought extra dinners for Dozen Dinner Draw attendees.
  • Nancy Potter reflected on Jessie’s hospitality to exchange students.
  • President Trina ended our sharing of memories with a moment of silence.

During the break-out rooms at the meeting before last, President asked members to come up with suggestions for increasing more face-to-face interactions. Trina summarized the list:

  • 3-Zoom meetings and 1 outdoor activity (e.g. apple picking, walking, bike riding) for any given month.
  • Play dates for families.
  • Arrange in-person committee meetings.
  • Arrange classes or activities for juggling, wine or beer tasting, Latin or line dancing, Trivia Night, craft projects, or presentation of a travel story given by a fellow Rotarian.

Nancy Potter asked if club members had project suggestions for next year's Dozen Dinner Draw (DDD). If you're interested in being a DDD team member, contact Nancy or Ray Brisson.

HAPPY DOLLARS

  • Happy Dollars were not collected last week.

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

John Finn introduced Dr. Monroe Weber-Shirk (known by “Monroe”), the technical director of AquaClara Reach. Monroe’s presentation was “Strategies to Spread Clean Water on Tap.”

Monroe summarized that the main goal of AquaClara Reach was to develop technologies that can deliver safe water to underdeveloped areas under the premise that "Happiness is safe water on tap".
