WELCOME & TRADITIONS

Four-Way Test —
Thanks to Harlan McEwan, Loretta Goss, George Ferrari, and Joe Giordano for reciting the Four-Way Test.

The Thought for the Day —
Gertrude Noden shared two quotes from a favorite book: “Ordinary People Who Achieved the Extraordinary: Heroes for My Daughter” by Brad Meltzer.

Guests —
There were no guests.

Visiting Rotarians —
No visiting Rotarians attended.

The group went into breakout rooms for fellowship before closing out the meeting.

 



ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Kelly Buck: The 8th Road Rally was a big success on Sunday. 19 cars and 58 people ran the course. We raised $1,775 for the Gibbs Scholarship Fund. Kelly shared the winners and thanked her committee, donors, and sponsor Maguire Auto. She also showed pictures from the event.
    First place: June Losurdo & Jeff True ($500 grant), second place: Debbie & Steve Watkins from Trumansburg ($250 grant), third place: Larry & Marcie Robinson and Ivy Stevens-Gupta. Random drawing: Serenna McCloud and son Elijah ($250 grant).
    A list of winners, prizes, and donations is at the end of the newsletter.
  • Angela Sullivan: Community Grants deadline is passed. We received 23 proposals. Selection will be made in September and awards presented in October.
  • Kelly Buck: a few Rotarians were meeting at Treleaven Winery in King Ferry later that Wednesday night to play trivia. Friends were invited to join the team beginning at 6:00pm!
  • Heidi Goldstein: the 15th annual Rotary Harvest will be Saturdays Aug 21, 28 and Sept 4. Volunteers are needed. Please sign-up now. We have 10 families this year with lots of children.
  • Ron Provus: the 25th World of Skills job fair is August 25 at Hotel Ithaca. They need Rotarians to volunteer that day. Please sign up asap.

  • Mary Kane, $20 for new staff Emma Terwilliger
  • Dave Martin, $13 for hiking 13 miles on the Appalachian Trail with nephew
  • Angela Sullivan, $10 for sadly having to cancel a trip to Maine BUT getting to see Jasperoo instead

  • Serenna McCloud, $5 for winning the road rally random $250 grant drawing
  • Larry Thayer, $20 for his granddaughter’s lovely wedding
  • Mary Kane, another $5 because she sang in Larry Thayer’s son’s wedding years ago
  • Doug Schmidt, $10 for his sister’s new baby girl
  • Joe Giordano, $11 for the 11 courageous women who stood up and file complaints against Gov. Cuomo, and for our first NYS female governor

 



LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Heidi Goldstein introduced special musical guests Mary Beth and John Bunge, who form the group Jasperoo. They played two old-time songs on guitar and banjo.
