WELCOME & TRADITIONS

In unison, we recited the Four-Way Test.

President Catrina introduced our guest Matthew Smith, who came again this week.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Richard Kops gave an update on our 29th annual Share the Warmth program:  during their four-week distribution period (Nov 8-Dec 3), Catholic Charities gave out a total of 2,276 items to some 770 adults and children.  We were able to help 267 more people than in 2020!

A new agenda item, “Get to know a fellow Rotarian,” was introduced with our own President as its first presenter.  Using a collage of pictures, “Trina” shared her work at State Farm, her recent travels, a Christmas family photo, and volunteering with the Girl and Boy Scouts.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Frank Towner read a poem by Henry Scott-Holland titled “Death is Nothing at All,” a consoling message for him after the recent passing of his “good buddy Bobby.”

LAST WEEK’S PRESENTATION

Serenna McCloud introduced Jami P. Joyner, Director of Diversity Programs in Engineering at Cornell University, who spoke about “Self-care for Servant Leaders.”

Jami emphasized the importance of self-care for employees and volunteers within an organization because it fends off burnout symptoms of stress, anxiety, exhaustion, apathy, and decreased engagement.

In the implementation of any self-care models, Jami firmly stresses that self-care is “not a reward but an intentional goal” towards improved overall wellness.

Adding some levity, we watched a YouTube clip:  FUNNY Stress Management Techniques by TEDx Speaker Karyn Buxman.
